She has taught at the Dugoni School in both the Reconstructive Dental Sciences and Dental Practice departments, covering topics such as teledentistry, restorative techniques, and local anesthesia. Dr. Rainey teaches direct composite techniques, including black triangle closures and crown alternatives, to dentists in the U.S. and Canada through hands-on and virtual programs. She serves on the Dugoni Alumni Association board, speaks for Catapult Education, and is active in organizations like Girl Scouts and Mommy Dentists in Business. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, mentoring, and baking.
Course Summary:
We live in an era where over 65 million Americans are part of the Baby Boomer generation. Their caries disease was treated with large amalgams in their youth - and these restorations are still lurking 20, 30 and 40 years on! This patient population has a disproportionate number of cracked teeth and failing amalgams that have traditionally been treated with crowns. This course will describe ideal case selection to create long-lasting composite restorations that rival strength and contours of lab-fabricated restorations. We will discuss how to bill these restorations appropriately, so they can be a viable treatment option for patients and doctors alike.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn when it is/is not appropriate to use composite for cuspal coverage
- Understand prep design modifications for successful composite outcomes
- Build confidence in treating dental emergencies without reliance on lab or milled restorations
- Increase patient acceptance for minimally invasive treatment
